In just 1 day, newspapers are overflowing with fear mongering hysteria on every conceivable subject.  Let's review the facts:  1 person is supposed to have TB.  He feels great and has no symptoms.  He says he was not told not to go on his honeymoon, so he did, and now he's in custody in a hospital with people screaming and whining how selfish he is for endangering people's lives.  The hospital is running tests to determine how bad the infection is, and how infectious he is while treating him with oral and intravenous antibiotics.  Apparently, it IS treatable. Don't they already know how infectious this man is supposed to be?  I thought this was an international crisis!  So it's 1 person who doesn't even feel sick and the entire country is pissing itself in knee knocking fear? Can you say, "Over reaction to the point of being pathetic losers"?

CDC seeks those who sat near TB patient
By MIKE STOBBE, AP Medical Writer May 31, 2007

ATLANTA - Health officials in North America and Europe sought passenger lists Wednesday for two trans-Atlantic airline flights in their effort to find about 80 people who sat near a honeymooner infected with a dangerous drug-resistant form of tuberculosis.

Authorities also disclosed that the man was on several flights between various European locales over the course of two weeks earlier this month. Passengers lists for those flights were also being tracked down, they said.

"The investigation is just beginning. It's very challenging," said Dr. Martin Cetron, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's division of global migration and quarantine.

The man, who is under the first U.S. government-ordered quarantine since 1963, told a newspaper he flew from Atlanta to Greece for a wedding and then traveled to Italy for a honeymoon. Later he flew back to North America because he feared he might die without treatment in the United States.

CDC officials are concentrating on the trans-Atlantic flights, when the likelihood of spreading the disease was greatest because he was in a confined space with other people for hours. Officials were trying to contact 27 crew members and about 80 passengers who sat in the five rows surrounding the man for testing.

Other passengers on the flights are not considered at high risk of infection because tests indicated the amount of TB bacteria in the man was low, Cetron said.

While he was in Rome, health authorities reached him with the news that further tests had revealed his TB was a rare, "extensively drug-resistant" form, far more dangerous than he knew. They told him to turn himself over to Italian health officials and not to fly on any commercial airlines.

Instead, on May 24, the man flew from Rome to Prague on Czech Air Flight 0727. From Prague, the couple left for Montreal the same day, aboard Czech Air Flight 0104, according to CDC officials.

The man then drove into the United States at Champlain, N.Y. He told the newspaper he was afraid that if he did not get back to the U.S., he wouldn't get the treatment he needed to survive.

The man is now at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital under the first federal quarantine order since the government quarantined a patient with smallpox in 1963. A sheriff's deputy was assigned to guard him. He is not facing prosecution, health officials said.

A spokesman for Denver's National Jewish Hospital, which specializes in respiratory disorders, said Wednesday that the man would be treated there. It was not clear when he would arrive.

Conditioning...
Excuse me, but I've got a question.

What made "health officials" suddenly aware of this TB guy and how did they know how to find him?

Did you notice that health officials were not able to prevent the public from being exposed to this man's disease, or anyone else's diseases?  When did they show up?  AFTER THE FACT.  The CDC's response is to try to track down anyone who may have come too close to the guy on an airplane.  And then what? That's too little too late.  At least they're trying to do something.  Well they have to don't they?  Otherwise we'd see that they don't and can't protect us.

The government is not capable of protecting us from anything.  They cannot be there if/when we are confronted with something dangerous.  They aren't there when people get mugged.  They aren't there when mind controlled men go on shooting sprees at colleges.  They aren't there when women get raped and beaten or when children are being abused.  They can't be.  How could they?

They can only show up after the fact.  Or, maybe if they're called they can try to show up while it's still in process, but they can't prevent anything from happening.  Don't look to government as your guardian, they aren't your guardian.

YOU are responsible for your own health and well being, not them.  Learn to take common sense precautions, think 'safety'.  Don't sit next to anyone who looks sick.  Don't walk down dark alleys alone at night.  Lock your doors and windows when you're not home.  This is simple stuff.  If you're comfortable with self defense, learn some.  No one will be there to save you if it ever comes down to that sort of thing happening.

Take martial arts classes.  Go to the shooting range and find out how serious gun owners are about safety and obeying the law.  Ask them if they feel safer knowing they can defend themselves.  They always say "Yes" if they've gotten the proper training and know how, and when to use a gun.

Your health and well being is important enough to not leave in the hands of strangers who can't be there when it really counts.  Americans have always been proud to be independent and capable of dealing with everything that life brought them.  You're no different.  You can do it too, in fact it's your job.  All the safety and security you need is within your hands and it's up to you to grab it or... do without it.  The government can't and won't be there if anything bad ever happens to you.  Not until it's all over and way too late.

In the second news flare up on the topic of antibiotic resistant TB, your conditioning continues.  The government would like you to become accustomed to some new ideas.

1.  Citizens being taken off the streets against their own will 'for the good of the community'.

Forget individual rights, the very thing our nation is founded on.  Drag one away for the good of the whole. But the constitution doesn't support that.  It's wrong.

It's nonsense to drag some people away to save others.  We can't rid ourselves of every potential danger.  Dangerous people will always walk the earth no matter how well prepared we are.  If someone really is threatening public health they need to be treated, not imprisoned.  It happens.  It's not criminal to get sick. Sick people need medical help.

If you think sick people should go to prison then we better start rounding up all the men with venereal disease who darn well know they have it.  And we better start rounding up all the teenagers who are having sex to prevent them from spreading STD's.  And we better start rounding up everyone with pneumonia, and the common cold, and the flu, or a cough, or even cancer since that's viral.  Maybe we ought to put EVERYone in prison.  That should make all of us nice and safe.

2.  Become comfortable with the idea of the government involving itself in your personal medical and health related matters.  Even though it's none of their darn business and they have no right interfering in it.

They want you to start thinking of them as the boss of all health.   Warm up to the idea of them forcing quarantines of sick people with armed military men on guard. It's not like local health officials could handle these things.  No, the president needs to get involved because he knows so much more about medical care and treatment than local health officials do.

Oh wait, that's wrong.  He DOESN'T know SQUAT about health matters.  So what's he doing giving federal orders to quarantine 'some guy'?   He wants all of us to get familiar with the idea of federal quarantine in general for no possible reason or need, so when they quarantine your home town and shoot anyone trying to leave, you won't panic.  As a matter of fact, the more you buy into this, the more freaked out you'll be.  The more freaked out you are, the easier you'll go along with everything they say. Frightened people stop using their heads.  You'll be begging the government to step in and 'save you from the sick people'.

3.  Get used to seeing people wearing white masks over their faces.  It's a powerful image that scares people half to death.  Subconsciously you'll be imagining everyone around you teeming and crawling with horrible bugs and diseases and you'll feel more and more unsafe every single time one of these news articles comes up, and every time you see people in scrubs wearing face masks to protect themselves.

4.  They want you to allow your anxiety levels to increase all around, so you'll be afraid of EVERYthing. They want you to feel weak and unsafe instead of realizing that literally nothing is any different today than it was yesterday or 15 years ago.

The fact is that communicable diseases are pretty rare in America.  They're much more real in poor countries where people don't have clean water, safe food, and especially sanitary living conditions and bathrooms.  Those are the things that make people sick, and we don't have those problems.

By the way, Super TB has migrated over the border from our poor neighbors.  When they come here without going through proper procedures, they bring in diseases like Super TB, leprosy and other viral and bacterial diseases that were eradicated in America more than 50 years ago.  If you really want the threat of pandemics to stop, ask the president why he can't protect us at our own borders anymore.  Sick people can not only be stopped but they can be helped and treated too, before letting them come into contact with our population.  This would eliminate all of the really dangerous diseases we've got back here now, that haven't been seen here in decades. Diseases that have always been stopped at the border, at least until now.

Think about it. Where do all the terrible flu bugs come from every year?  Somewhere else.  They come here from Asia, and from other countries that have great poverty and poor sanitation.

SO, RELAX.  One guy on a plane with TB isn't a national crisis.   Not when half a million people have died in Iraq for no good reason.  Not when half a million American women die each year from breast cancer.  If that's not a crisis, then one guy with TB sure isn't. Stay calm and keep things in perspective.

Fear is a tactic that governments use to control people. This government is especially shameless about it.  Why do they do it?  They want to scare you so badly that you won't care that they end the constitution.  They want you so scared that you'll do anything they want, even give up all of your rights.

They know that as long as your rights matter to you, no one in their right mind would ever hand them over.  That prevents them from doing things they want to do that they know are wrong.  But if they can scare you enough you'll join millions of others who are duped into thinking the government can actually save them from danger, and you'll throw your rights to them, begging them to do something.

They'll do something all right.  And you won't be one measly bit safer than you were before you threw all your rights away.

There's nothing more unsafe than having no protections under the law.  Our legal protections are what that keeps the government from going rogue and doing things like taking away our property, emptying our bank accounts, and merging our country into the North American Union.  They could have anyone imprisoned for no reason at all.  It would end freedom of speech.  It would not be fun.  I'd rather take my chances and go on as usual, without martial law.  We don't need it.  There have always been sick people.  There have been much harder, much worse times in our history and we've always pulled through like the strong, independent, capable people we are. There was a time when people just avoided whatever was going around, that's called common sense. It works pretty well too.  Our forefathers didn't have our clean living conditions or modern conveniences, or our health care system.  They had nothing but themselves and each other to lean on.  And yet,  we survived without the benefit of the government rounding people up and leaving them to die in death tents while also clamping down with total control over everyone else.

Giving up our rights won't have any affect on public health and it won't make one single person safer.  How could it?
